Why might I need these?

Many websites that you will visit may require that some of these additional programs be installed on your computer in order to run. You may have an older version but depending on the site you visit an updated version might be needed. Some sites require newer broswer programs or just work and look better in a new broswer. Downloadable documents are often available in .PDF format which means that you will need Adobe Reader to open and read them.
